Caught Shoplifting at Walmart, No Police Involved
My question involves criminal law for the state of: SC
Ok so today I got caught shoplifting about $10 worth of goods from walmart. I cooperated with them and they said that they would not call the police. They got my information from my ID. However, I didn't have to sign anything. He also said that I could still shop in the store. He also did not mention any fines or civil demand letter. I explained that I was in college on scholarship and he seemed like he didn't want to ruin my school career. I also apologized to the people in the room after one of them explained how stealing affects the employees. The guy stated that I seemed very sincere (Which I was. I won't be doing this again).
In the other posts I've read, people had to sign a paper and that the LP said they would receive a civil demand letter. My question is how likely is it that I will receive one of those letters or worse actually be charged with something?
Thanks for your replies.

Since it was only $10.....you have a 50/50 of receiving a Civil Demand letter. Should you receive one, pay it immediately, or make arrangements for a payment plan.
Know that yes, shoplifting could cost you that scholarship, along with thousands of dollars, so hopefully you learned from the experience.

Ok thanks. I also was wondering if a civil demand letter would cause me to lose the scholarship even if I never get charged.
