What Are the Legal Costs for an Adoption
My question involves adoption law for the State of: WI

If I decide not to give my child up for adoption after starting adoption proceedings by not signing TPR papers, will I have to foot the legal costs?

Also, is there a 30 day time frame between signing the TPR papers and the final hearing?

You may change your mind any time BEFORE you sign the legal consents. As soon as that hearing (which will be held within 30 days of the birth) is completed, your parental rights are terminated. Any further hearings will involve the finalization of the adoption but will not involve you and you may no longer change your mind.

As a member of the adoption triad, I would STRONGLY recommend that you contact an adoption agency in your area. They can provide counseling for you so that you can be sure of your decision. They can also ensure that all of the laws are followed and that the birthfathers consents are also done correctly. There is a great book...Pregnant? Adoption is an Option written for prospective birthmothers.
