    Reporting Molestation After Recovering Memories
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Louisiana and New York
When I was about 9 or 10, I went on a trip with a family member. We traveled across the U.S., and at times he was somewhat inappropriate. However, while we were in New York (which was where he was moving to), he convinced me to touch him inappropriately. I had blocked out the memories, and only began to remember about two years ago (though I am still a minor). I live in Louisiana, and recently he has moved here too. My questions are: if I report him, what can be done?, can I report this in Louisiana if it happened in New York?, and is this my only option? :wallbang:

You can make a report in Louisiana.

Are your parents aware of this? Are you in any type of counseling?

My parents are not aware of this, and I'm not in counseling.

If you are still a minor you have time and if you reside in LA you may make a report there. I am unsure of what town you are in but the Baton Rouge crisis center can at least tell you of your closest crisis center. They have a free 24-hour hotline. http://www.brrcc.org/ This is their info. Good luck to you.

While Louisiana MIGHT be willing to take the report on behalf of New York authorities, But New York is the state where jurisdiction would reside, since that's where the crime(s) occurred. A Louisiana court isn't going to prosecute in Louisiana unless that's where the crime occurred. Whether New York authorities would issue a warrant, no one can guess. Is the victim willing to go back to New York where a trial would be held?

I'm not willing to go back to New York unless I absolutely have to. And I know where the crisis center is near me, but I've been too scared to go there.

The folks at the crisis center won't push you to do anything. They'll give you information about various possible choices, and those choices will always be yours to make. They'll also give you whatever support you're ready to accept, confidentially. You can always go in and see what it's like. (And they'll understand that you're scared...they'd actually probably be surprised if you weren't - but that's ok, they'll still help you however they can).
