Shoplifting As a Juvenile
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Florida
I was arrested for retail theft at Wal-Mart in Florida. I was 16 at the time. I was taken in, finger printed, had my picture taken, and was released to go home when my parents showed up. It was counted as a misdemeanor. The county had a program for first time offenders where I went through a tour of the county detention center, sat through a lecture/seminar at the court house, and had to write two essays.
My question is when I apply for jobs, am I required to answer "yes" on the applications when they ask if I have ever been convicted of a crime, other than a minor traffic violation?
I currently live in North Carolina and I'm now 19 years old.
Re: Shoplifting As a Juvenile
In most states, unless the person asking is legally authorized to ask about juvenile adjudications, a juvenile court adjudication isn't considered a conviction. Additionally, it sounds like your charge may have been dismissed based upon your completion of the first offender's program - that's not something we can investigate for you. So tell us a bit more about your disposition.
Re: Shoplifting As a Juvenile
You can honestly answer no. You are probably in a theft database.
