Accused of Petty Larceny of a Shirt
My question involves criminal law for the state of: new york
My friend was accused of stealing a shirt from Hollister in Nyack New York. The store employee followed her outside the store into the mall. He physically grabbed her stroller to try to stop her. The police arrived and they asked her if she had anything in her bag. The police then said he would search it. She then went into her diaper bag and took out a shirt she had previously bought that she planned in returning. She was then ticketed to appear in court. Will she be finger printed when she shows up to court? She never signed anything to say she was guilty. The shirt was 44 dollars. Does she need a lawyer?

Not at court, no, but she may be sent to the police station.

Irrelevant.

It's a bad idea to appear in court without representation. If she cannot afford private counsel, she should plead Not Guilty at her arraignment and ask for a Public Defender.
