Caught Shoplifting and They Claim to Have Me on Camera 6 Other Times
I got caught shoplifting 3 beauty products equalling $56 from a grocery store on Long Island yesterday. They didn't call the police, they just gave me a civil demand letter and said they were going to run me through their facial recognition system. They clearly had very good technology and I think this is something all stores will have soon. They said with facial recognition the computer would show any archived incidents and they would call me later about any other incidents. They said they wouldn't charge me on any past incidents but I might have to pay a civil fine for each.
I was thankful they let me go and felt I deserved everything. In a way I am thankful it happened because I really know I will stop shoplifting for good, I have too much to lose, like my kids. I am a good mom and person and lead an otherwise upstanding life I just fell into this horrible habit when times got hard. I felt like all my money should go to my kids so whenever I needed something for myself I shoplifted it. And only from the one store because I honestly thought they didn't have anyone watching. Come to find out they have very high technology.
Anyway I received a call from one of the LP guys last night and he told me when they ran me through face recognition they saw 6 other incidents of me shoplifting in the past year. But he said he wanted to help me and try and brush it under the rug because for some reason he felt for me and believed I really was a good person who could change unlike a lot of the people he sees, and he could tell I live for my kids. He said he burned the incidents onto DVD to keep in his own safe at home in case he ever had to cover his butt, but that he deleted the incidences from the store surveillance archives. He asked me to come in and sign a few more papers, so I did. When I got there he said to act like I was his friend if anyone else walked in. It genuinely seemed like he was taking care of things on the down low. He also frisked me, with no one else present, and the way he did it I felt kinda violated. He was checking to make sure I wasn't wired so he says. He then asks "so since I'm doing this for you what can you do for me?" I was confused but he then said if I wasn't married he would've asked me out. It was borderline sexual harassment. Then he asked for a hug and let me go. I will never tell anyone (other than anonymously on here) what happened though in hopes he holds up his end of the deal and hides what he said he was going to hide. If he was honest then I just now have to pay the civil fine for yesterday and hope they don't prosecute as an afterthought.
I guess I'm just looking for thoughts on this because the whole thing was so odd.
I'm so thankful for a second chance and am going to embrace it like I have a new lease on life. Stealing is wrong no matter what the circumstances so I'm not looking for a pity party but this guy had mercy for me, even if his motive was to feel me up and hit on me.
What is the likelihood that the store will pursue prosecution for yesterday's incident if they think it really was the only time I ever shoplifted?

If events occurred exactly as you described, you need to speak to the store manager and the store's loss prevention manager. If it was the store's LPM, you need to speak to their superior. This sort of conduct is not only unprofessional but could also be illegal in a criminal and/or civil manner. You are most likely not this person's first victim nor will you be the last if it is not reported. You might also want to consult an attorney about any possible legal actions available to you.

To your questions: They could certainly report it, they have until the statute of limitations runs to do so. Will they? If this person behaved the way you claim, no they will not. The scumbag will not want to draw further attention to this.

Did you actually shoplift multiple times at the store? If so, stop. I give you kudos for wanting to do the right thing, own up to your actions and change your ways. That does not, repeat DOES NOT, excuse the behavior of the LP agent. You did nothing to deserve that kind of treatment.
