Can You Emancipate over Emotional and Verbal Abuse in Florida
My question involves emancipation laws for the State of: I am 16 and will be 17 in July. I live with just my mom. She has recently started seeing this guy who is a very disgustful person. My mother and I have never got along:wallbang:. I lived with my grandparents for most of my life until they both passed away in the recent years. There is a lot of verbal and emotional abuse caused by my mother. I have deep depression but have not been put on anything because she is too lazy to take me to the doctors. I have been trying to get out of this situation for awhile now, but no where in my town in hiring under the age of 18, at the moment. I would like to know if there is any way that I can go to a court system, or just move out between now and my 18th birthday. I don't have a job, yet, but my friends and their families are willing to give up a room in their house to help me out. If I just packed my things and left, would I get in trouble legally? Is it hard to get emancipated with no job? Is it expensive? Please, I would really like to know the answers to all my questions. Much thanks (:

You will not be emancipated.
The State of FL requires your parent to file - not you.
And you MUST be able to prove that you're already (or are capable of being) completely self-supporting.
If you move out without permission, you will be caught and returned to your home, or placed in the foster system. Whoever harbored you could be facing felony charges.

Then how do I get through my situation.

Like every other 16 year old who hates living at home (and trust us - we've all been there!).
Talk to your counselors at school if there are genuine issues with emotional abuse, or contact child services.
Busy yourself. Maybe - if your Mom allows - get a part-time job.
Volunteer, perhaps.
