    My Child Was Caught Shoplifting
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Arkansas
My child; age 12 was caught shoplifting at a WalMart store. I didn't know anything about this until I had checked out & was leaving, was approached by 3 employees. Ok, I understand what he did was wrong, but was there a need for one of those guys to cuss at my child? They didn't call the cops, thank goodness, or make me sign anything; but why did I have to give my name & they take my picture? I certainly didn't give out SS#, I just don't see a need in that. I guess my question is, since they took my picture, does this mean I'm ban from the store? I mean my child is sufficiently scared & won't ever do it again; but I paid for my things.

well, while you seem to be offended by what they did, you really do not have much right to be short of the possible cussing at your child. Without knowing all that happened, maybe that was somewhat justified as well, maybe not.

Did they tell you you or your son was banned? If not, then you are not banned. If you have any doubts, contact the store manager and ask either by phone, or if you go there in person, go to the service desk immediately upon entering and ask to speak to the manager.

they took your name and your pic because they wanted to. You were free to not give your name or allow a pic. They were free to call the police and seek to have your child prosecuted. Kind of a fair trade off if you ask me.
