Out of State Petit Larceny
My question involves criminal law for the state of: NY
My question is a little complex. I was working "under the table" at a liquor store in NY several years ago. My employers did not have a copy of my identification or SSN, just my first and last name and a cell phone number.
One day while working, I scratched $40 worth of lottery tickets and was later confronted with the situation. They pressed charges, however I moved out of state before ever being interviewed by the police. Several months passed and I did receive a voicemail from a police officer stating that I had a warrant issued for my arrest for petit larceny and would need to turn myself in. I no longer have that cell phone and in the 2 years since, have not heard anything about this.
I have since moved to another state and have registered a car in two separate states without any trouble.
Given that the officials in NY do not have any identifying information for me, what would be the likely next step in this situation? Can they somehow link up this charge with the real "me"? Will they "find" me?
Re: Out of State Petit Larceny
You need to address this issue.
This could happen to you:
You get pulled over for speeding. While they run your info, that arrest warrant pops up. You are handcuffed, put in the back of the police car, and taken to jail.....(your car is towed, and you get to pay all those fees, too).
Or....you're just minding your own business at home one evening when there is a knock on the door. The police found out about that warrant, had some spare time, and come to your house to arrest you, right in view of your neighbors.
