Theft from My Home
My question involves criminal law for the state of: KY
In the spring of 2005, my son and a friend watched me leave to go out of town for a short work trip (3 days). When I returned, there was over $5000 of jewelry missing; the friend had entered the side of the house - police report turned up nothing. I have just run into this 'friend' and am curious if I am able to pursue the situation. The police did nothing (small town, had no police department, city nearby did the "investigation.") The police also did not pursue any pawn shop transactions, etc....At same time I was caring for elderly mother (point being the time and energy to pursue further).
I know pawn shops keep records for years .. if I were to turn up his transaction, is it too late to prosecute?
Thanks

Re: Theft from My Home
No, it's not too late to prosecute. There is apparently no statute of limitations for felonies in the state of Kentucky. That means there is no time limitation where such could not be prosecuted after.
I don't know what evidence there was but about all you can do is contact the police and tell them the person you suspect of committing the crime is back in town. I don't suspect they will be too excited about picking up a 6 year old theft case unless they did have a lot of evidence tying this guy to the crime already.

Re: Theft from My Home
They (police) didn't pursue the case. I called and called .. "did you check with pawn shops?" .. no response.
I have a list of local shops to call and will see what they can offer - some only give info to police. But I'll give it a shot.
Thanks!
