Caight Stealing from a Grocery Store, First Offense
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Michigan.
I'm 25 years old and have no criminal record. The most I have is one speeding ticket. Earlier tonight, I was caught by an in store detective. He led me to a room in the grocery store and took my info. A police officer came and cited me with a court appearance. I had to sign a paper stating I'd never go to the store again and also to pay an amount for the merchandise. I'm curious about this court date, since I've never head one before.
Will I be going to jail for this? I've no idea what to expect.
Also, I have stolen two other times from this store. Can they try to pull it up on camera and charge me for that also? Thank you.
Re: First Time Offense of $15 at Grocery Store in Michigan
You need a lawyer. Jail is a possibility but probably unlikely. While they can look to see if there's evidence of you shoplifting before, I'm not sure how likely that is unless they have some suspicion that you have been doing so repeatedly.
