Vehicle Title With Lien, Seller Won't Send Release Form
My question involves a consumer law issue in the State of: Illinois/Indiana

I live in Indiana and bought an ATV in Illinois. I did something stupid, yet unknowingly. The title had a lien on it, not from my seller, but from a prev seller. Now I can't title it. I contacted the seller, who said he would get in touch w/the guy who sold it to him, and get the Release Form. Nothing. He does not even return calls. I contacted the Lienholder company who won't send me the Release form, and said they sent it to the prev owner. I mailed him, no luck. I sent a registered letter to my seller, giving him a deadline, which has passed. What next? ALL I need is the Release Form!! Do I need to sue him?

You don't have a contractual relationship with the title owner, so he has no obligation to respond to your letters and has no liability to you in court.

You should consider suing the "seller" for the value of the vehicle on the basis that he didn't have title and the right to 'sell' you anything, and see if that lights a fire under his posterior.
