Can tenant require Landlord to provide copy of insurance?
    Hi

My tenant is being very insistent that he needs a copy of the insurance policy on my dwelling. I checked lease but there is not insurance statement (I guess I should have made it mandatory to request tenant to have their own insurance).

I mentionned to the tenant that:
1/ He is responsible for his own insurance to cover his belongings and personal liability'
2/ Having my insurance policy is beyond the normal Landlor-tenant agreement

Please let me know if I am not correct,

    Thanks,

    Mary

    Landlord's Insurance Policy
There is no general reason why a tenant would require a landlord's insurance policy. The tenant, as you indicate, may wish to obtain renter's insurance if the tenant is concerned about theft, loss, or damage to property.

Thank you for your response. That is what I thought.

Does that apply if the dwelling is rented furnished?

    Thank you,

    Mary

    Furnished Residence
If you own the furniture, you should carryan appropriate rider on your insurance policy about loss or damage (unless you don't care about the furniture, or have otherwise chosen not to do so).
