What Causes a Collector to "Update" Your Account
My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: Missouri

For all types of collection (phone bill, credit card, rent, whatever), when is your credit report "updated with recent activity" or "reaged?" Can a simple dispute letter cause this to happen? Does a phone call cause this to happen? Or must it be a payment or commitment to pay? Can my friend call and dispute his debt or will it look updated if the dispute is unsuccessful?

    Thanks!

A payment or commitment to pay will update to show new activity and reset the SOL on the debt.

You friend MUST dispute his debt IN WRITING. Legally, the report cannot show new activity as the result of a dispute.
