Can Debt Collectors Garnish from a Closed Checking Account with 0 Balance
Hi,
I live in New York City and just finished closing a joint checking account I have with my Mother, which may end up getting a judgement against her from a debt collector (court date has not yet been set but trying to get as much information as possible)
If the judgement is made against my mother, can the debt collectors somehow garnish from a closed checking account and cause it to have a negative balance that I will be liable to repay? (as my name is also on the account and my mother has no income)
Thank you very much in advance for any information you may provide.

No ,, they'll get nothing from the bank...banks are not stupid

If the account has been formally closed, there's no account for them to garnish.
