    Medical Bills for Deceased Spouse
My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: NC

My spouse passed away in 08. I have just this week received a bill a medical treatment that was settled than but apparently was audited by insurance and redone. The bill is rather large and I paid all bills due shortly after the death. I do not have this amount of money as the disability stopped upon the death and that income was lost. Since this bill is more than 2 years old am I responsible for it?

based in common law in North Carolina, yes, you are responsible for the debt.

Here is a recent court decision that is similar to your situation: http://www.aoc.state.nc.us/www/publi...9/080712-1.htm

that is the short answer. For a longer answer:

what happened with the insurance that they rescinded the payment? Have you appealed the reversal of payment? Have you spoken with whomever is due this bill?
