Charged With Shoplifting in Rhode Island
My question involves criminal law for the state of: rhode island

I 've had some confusion, if caught shoplifting in walmart with a $3.00 item as a minor (12) what would be the charges. (just asking I haven't done this but my kids probably will )

Your kids PROBABLY will????? Well, now is the chance AS THE PARENT to keep your kids under tight surveillance at the store. Or get a baby sitter while you go shopping.

See, if one of your kids is caught stealing an item....you kid will end up in Juvenile Court. And you, the parent, will be paying all the court costs and fines. Your kid(s) will likely do Community Service (you get to pay for that program, too). It may be in an inconvenience for you to take them as assigned.

Oh...and YOU, the PARENT, will also be responsible for paying a Civil Demand to the store. This is separate from the Criminal charges.

All in all...if your kid(s) shoplift....YOU get to pay $2000+ for it.

Again....don't take your kids shopping. Or put those little leashes on them. You might also get them into some kind of counseling now if you think this would be typical behavior of them.
