Where Do I Adjust Income for Commuter Deductions
Hi,
Doing my friend's taxes and her company didn't reduce her gross income on her W-2 for money set aside for commuter checks. From what I understand, these are pre-tax dollars for both federal and California because on my W-2 my reported lower wage reflects money taken out for commuter and health.
I'm using H&R software and can see where to adjust for state but can't find it for the federal side. Does my friend have to ask payroll to make a W-2 correction or am I overlooking it (is there a special form or box that should be used, going to file with long form)? Also, she didn't go over the federal monthly limits.
Thank you for your help.

This is a perfect example of why someone should NOT be doing their friend's taxes.

This is a perfect example of a lame response. Totally unhelpful. If you have nothing to add, why respond, unless you're just trying to make the inquiring party feel bad? They're just asking for help, and you've added nothing. Not even an explanation of why JiggieP (or anyone else) should not do a friend's taxes.
Way to be a pointless brick. Try not to attach yourself to any balloons.
