My question involves emancipation laws for the State of: New York
If I am a 16 year old male in New York, am I allowed to live by myself with the consent of my parents?
IF your parents consent, yes. But there is no law that is going to compell them to consent.
Since this question was in the Emancipation forum, I just wanted to clarify for the OP, that living alone, even with your parents consent, does not make you "emancipated".
Sorry, I just didn't know where else I could post it. What's the youngest age someone could live independently with the consent of parents, I have a little brother who is 14 and I was wondering whether it would be possible for him too?
How can a 16-year old possible support himself 100%? How could a 14-year old? And what kind of parents would allow a 14-year old to live alone?
A 14 year old living alone would definitely raise hackles with the Child Protective Services. Even a 16 year old is marginal.
And no, a 16 year old and a 14 year old living together is not going to be allowed. A 16 year old living alone would likely not be challenged as long as the parents had given permission and it was clear that he was safe. Throw a 14 year old into the mix and all bets are off.
