    Caught Swapping Price Tags
    I need some help, please.
First of all, i was stupid and did a mistake.

I went to a retail store and picked some items and swaped price tags in fitting room. Then went to the register to pay and employee scanned and said that the tags are not
correct. A second employee working in that specific department was called to check price tags. Second employee said that same thing, prices are not correct and asked me whether do i want them? I said no, not interested and kept looking at other items. He then placed those items in the racks and went away.

After few minutes i heard an announcement to roll all cameras in all departments. I got sacred and walked out of the store. I didn't take anything with me, i didn't run, no one stopped me.

    My questions are:

    1. If they roll the tapes and see that i swaped the tags in the fitting room, will they call cops and file a case? eventhough i didn't take anything from there.

    2. Will they roll tapes only for the last 1-2 hrs the time i was in the store or will they roll for back weeks and months back videos?

I will never ever do shoplifting again. I do not have any cirminal/arrest records. I got scared so much and read all about shoplifting and consequences and will join in classes at NASP.

    1. It is highly unlikely that there are cameras in the fitting rooms to see you make the actual switch. In my experience, unless you are a chronic switcher and actually buy the merchandise, retailers don't waste time involving the police until you are caught red-handed.

    2. The roll tape announcement did what they wanted it to, it scared the crap out of you and got you out of their store. Most likely they knew you were guilty but many retailers have very strict guidelines on switching cases. They could not make the stop so they decided to scare you off instead which is also why your purchase was declined, LP had already contacted the associates and told them not to allow the purchase.

You got lucky. Don't try it again.

Good thing you read about the consequences. If you get caught shoplifting, it can cost you THOUSANDS of dollars, and ruin job opportunities for many years. We can't emphasize that enough.

"and ruin job opportunities for many years. We can't emphasize that enough. "

What do you mean, "for many years?" When does it not become an issue any more?

In Michigan for example, you cannot expunge a criminal charge for SEVEN years. Expungment laws and timelines vary by state.

It could also be in the Retail Theft Database for 7 years.
