F1 to F2 Change of Status

Hi all,

My wife has just arrived in states on 17th on Jan 2011 on legal F1 visa. By the time she reached here, the enrollment for the spring semester has already closed. We are finding hard to secure admission any other university in the ongoing semester, in which case she will be out of status within a short period of time.
Since I am working on OPT, is it possible that we right away register our marriage and change my wife's VISA status from F1 to F2 ?
If there is any other solution to this problems, ill really appreciate those.

Her I-94 is stamped D/S? With a specific date?

It will take several months, at least, for her application to be processed. The safest thing to do would be for her to leave the U.S. and seek F2 status through the consulate.

The bolded comment is unusual. Did she properly indicate her marital status when applying for the visa?
