Future Employment Opportunities
My question involves a background check in the State of: Washington
I am wondering about my future and what employment opportunities I would be able to pursue after my felonies are expunged. I was in a bad situation in my own home, I was robbed and attacked. I attempted to get my possessions back and defended myself when I was attacked. There were no witnesses except the get away car for the robber himself who had called police once at the hospital with the robber. From this I was charged with Attempted Robbery in the 2nd Degree and Assault in the 3rd with a deadly weapon. I was charged in late 2008. I am wondering if either of these are strikes, how long these stay on my record before I can expunge them, and who may access this after it is expunged. The career I had originally planned on pursuing was law enforcement, but was interrupted by this whole process.
I am also wondering if law enforcement would be a void option because of this past record if suing my lawyer for his immoral counsel would be appropriate. At the time of my conviction I was also a witness to another case, which I soon learned that my lawyer was representing the original suspect they had found. This can't be right, can it? It doesn't seem to me that he should have been able to do this since he was involved in the case I was a witness to. Would it be worth it to solve that issue to clear my record for employment?
Thank you very very much. This has been a huge burden to me for quite some time now.:wallbang:
Re: Future Employment Opportunities
Read this. I don't see a way to make your record disappear, and with a record like that I'm expecting that you're going to have an exceptionally hard time finding a law enforcement job.
Re: Future Employment Opportunities
I am not aware of any State that allows the expungement of offenses involving violent crimes. "Attempted Robbery & Assault with a deadly weapon" is a violent crime and bars you from ever seeking an expungment.

So I will always have to report that on a job application? The best I have found for employment since conviction is a paper route and they are still pending on whether they should hire me. It's so hard to be liked so much in an interview and in person everywhere I go and then have an instant change in how I am treated once I divulge my record. Even if it's a 3rd degree?

This event happened in 2008, hopefully since then and for the next 7 years you can keep your noise clean. You will still have to answer yes on an application if you are asked if you were ever convicted of a felony but hopefully the prospected employer will judge you for whom you are that day and not from the incident from 2008.
Good Luck
