Speeding Ticket Washington State - Deferral vs. Mitigation
My question involves a speeding ticket from the State of: Washington.
Speeding 51MPH in a 40MPH. $144 fine.
I have the following decision to make since I am not contesting the ticket -- Mitigate or ask for a deferral. If I go deferral, the deferral application fee is $175. I believe I am very close to the seven year window for deferral eligibility but I don't know for sure. This is a very high deferral fee but will wipe things clean if I have no infractions for a year. The reason I am considering mitigation instead is that I might get the $144 reduced and take my chances that my record won't be requested by my insurer since I am pretty clean and not in the group that gets normally checked. (I am in my mid-40s with only 2 previous speeding violations -- one that was deferred) If I go deferral again and get even a small ticket in the future, I lose the $144 (original ticket), the $175 deferral fee plus the new violation. Is asking for deferral even with a high fee recommended in these cases?
Re: Speeding Ticket Washington State - Deferral vs. Mitigation
The plus to getting the deferral is mainly to keep that driving record clean. If you're anyone within the transportation industry (such as a pilot, truck driver, etc.) or you're looking to avoid the insurance rate adjustment, then the deferral is the best option.
Otherwise: why pay more money to gamble, especially when odds are on the house's side?
