Completed Probation, but Still Owe Restitution Options
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Ohio
I completed 5yrs probation in the state of Ohio, But was told that I would be on unsupervised probation until my restitution was paid, Now I know what your thinking, I've paid over 12400 dollars already and still owe around 4 grand. I Know just pay them, well I've gotten divorced and I'm paying child support out the whoha, I'm struggling just to pay what I have and keep a roof over my head.
My question is how can they keep you on probation after you complete your sentence? And since my 5yr probation is over can they do anything if I don't make payments? I've served my time and have no time over my head... Thank you for your time

You've not completed your sentence, the restitution is part of it. You think they're not going to monitor your compliance with the restitution order?

Technically your probation is not done until you pay full restitution. You might be off supervision, but you could still be violated to failing to make restitution, and you could have your probation revoked and could be resentenced on the original charge. The latter is not likely all things considered, but it is still possible.

Yes, they can. My probation terms literally say "six years under the condition of full re-payment of restitution, court costs, and fines." Maybe in some cases they can remove it, but then it doesn't give you a lot of motivation to make those payments does it?
