Do I Need Emancipation

My question involves emancipation laws for the State of: New York

I believe that in the state of New York, you can only be emancipated at the age of 16. I am 14, and my parents are moving, they told me if I could find a way to stay by myself legally, I could. So I was wondering, if you can get emancipated with the consent of your parents if you are under 16, or if you even need to be emancipated if both parties agree? Help, please?

Are they truly willing, or do they know - which is my suspicion - that there is no way you can live on your own legally hence you're moving with them whether you like it or not?

They are truly willing, because if we do move, I will be forced to go to a boarding school rather than live with them, and neither of us really like that idea. So even with consent, there's no way I can live without a parent/guardian?

Read the stickies at the top of this forum. Can you support yourself at age 14? Of course not.

Yes, that's correct.

So, why would you be "forced" to go to a boarding school versus moving with your parents?

I would be forced to go to a boarding school, because my parents would be going to a politically unstable country, where it could be dangerous for me to live/go to school

There is only one state that will even consider emancipating a 14 year old; that state is not NY; even in the one state that will consider it, you'd better be either a nationally recognized athlete or spend your spare time as an extra in the Harry Potter movies.

I saw in another thread that cbg replied to, he said that you can live independently without emancipation with your parents/guardians permission, does that apply from only a certain age? Would it be possible to do at 14?

If the authorities were to get wind of a 14 year old living on her own, she would be in a foster home and her parents facing charges of child neglect in about six seconds flat.

1st of all, I'm a guy, so maybe that could be different, at what age do you think I could live independantly
