Drug Addicted Relative Squatting
My question involves real estate located in the State of: Texas
My grandmother signed her home (deed) over to my mother about 10 years ago and remained in the home with an aunt who lived there off and on. My grandmother passed away last year and my mother is left to pay the taxes and insurance on the home. The catch is my aunt is squatting in the home. She refuses to pay rent, cover the taxes, buy insurance or maintain the home in any way. She has lived in the home off and on for several years and has always used the address even when she resides in another state. Currently she has locked my mother out and all the utilities are off. She is always on drugs and has been involved in illegal activities off and on. She may have a man living there with her. How would my mother go about reclaiming this property. She has the deed, taxes and home owner insurance in her name. the home is owned (by my mother) free and clear. My aunt is destroying the home and draining my mother checkbook and sanity.
Re: Drug Addicted Relative Squatting
If your mother owns the home and the relative has no legal claim to reside there, your mother can go through the courts to evict her.
