Is There a Way to Protect Property from Medicaid
My question involves estate planning in the state of: VA
My father passed away in April and my mom lives in the debt-free property. She wants to change the deed to joint ownership with me(only child). Is there a way to protect it if she were to be placed in a nursing home? Ownership by me with her having lifetime rights has been suggested but is there a time period that must pass before it is safe??

If she requires Medicaid services during the look-back period, the state can make a claim for her home. The look-back period is generally 60 months (five years).
