    My question involves real estate located in the State of: texas. i have found an abandoned boat, since huricane ike, i would like to float this vessel and get the numbers, but barnicals have covered everything. do i invest the money or, just forget that boat?

    It depends where you found the boat and in what situation. Marine salvage law is a bit involved.

    Boats work similar to vessels in most states. It is NOT just a "finders keepers" situation. SOMEONE owns that vessel, even if it appears abandoned. It may be the registered owner, or it may be the insurance company who paid a claim on the vessel. Until and unless you hold the title to the vessel in your name, you will not be able to register it and could be facing issues for being in possession of stolen property. In order to GET the title, your state's marine law enforcement needs to both inspect the vessel and attempt to identify and locate the actual owner. If such owner cannot be identified or located THEN you may be able to take title to the vessel. You can contact the TPWD at (800) 792-1112 to get more info.
