I apologize for posting twice as the title on my earlier post got changed from TN to Tennessee. It is not accurate since I'm not in Tennessee but in NJ. So I am reposting it again.
I want to explore the options I have and accordingly start to plan for a Green Card. I am a Canadian Citizen on a TN-Visa here in the US.
The basic that I have heard so far is that Green Card is an option for H1B visa holders. I don't quite like the idea of going for H1B because first it requires a sponsorship and in today's economic climate I find that most companies don't want to do H1B while I have observed that companies are willing to consider TN when they hear that no sponsorship is necessary. Second, H1B has a quota and there is no guarantee that I will get a H1B. If I don't get it then I will need to try next year in which case I will lose a year. Third, I have sent it my application for H1B and it didn't go through cause the quota was filled? I didn't like the experience and I find that there is no certainly for H1B, on the other hand TN makes me comfortable since I know that I will atleast get it.
What other options do I have?
I recall once I was told that I could have done it when I first arrived in the US from Canada (I don't recall which visa type it was but it requires me to be practicing in Canada for a year).
Some tell me that I can do a Green Card from TN while some say I can't.
There must be a way for Canadians to get a Green Card. I don't understand why there isn’t a bilateral agreement between Canada & USA for an easy permanent residency process. Maybe I am not aware, it could be? Or is it?
