Being Accused of Harboring a Runaway
I am in a messy divorce. My husband is using nasty means to get my kids. He is accusing me of harboring a 17 1/2 runaway who he claims I am having a sexual relationship with. I am getting continuous calls from detectives in another county telling me to turn him over. I do not know where he is. How do I stop the calls and false accusations?

Is there a 17 year old living with you?
Which US state?
Re: Being Accused of Harboring a Runaway
There are no 17 yr olds living with me. My husband took the house when I filed for divorce. I am living with my 27 yr old brother and his wife. It is in WA state. They even called my mom's house and said they had info that I was living there with this 17 yr old. It is all false. My family is tired of being harassed.
Re: Being Accused of Harboring a Runaway
Unfortunately, this is not uncommon. One side accuses the other of all kinds of things.
Please remember though, that in order for the allegations to actually mean something there must be evidence. Proof.
Re: Being Accused of Harboring a Runaway
There is no proof because it is not true. But the Commissioner listened to him and took my kids giving him temporary custody. He also told this to the GAL. I have given my side to them. But they are choosing to believe him even though there is no proof. My attorney is appalled at the unlawful things they are doing. But so far has not been able to stop them. I am afraid they will win and keep my kids from me. Is there any legal way to stop them from spreading more lies and smearing me to the courts?
Re: Being Accused of Harboring a Runaway
Is there, or has there ever been, a 17 year old - whomever it may be - either hanging around with you, in contact with you, whatever?
Please don't dance around that question. I live in WA - and the State is very reluctant to remove children from their primary caregiver without actually having proof of some wrongdoing.
Re: Being Accused of Harboring a Runaway
I did have dealings with the 17 yr old when my soon to be ex accused me of having relations with him. I have taped recordings of him admitting this is his tactic to eradicate me from my children's lives. I have recordings of him admitting to lying. But the courts refuse to listen to the recordings. He even went to the parents and got the kid kicked out. Now his parents have reported him as a runaway under my ex's advice. They are saying he is with me. He is not. I did see him a few times and got a written statement denying my ex's and his parents' allegations. He is willing to testify that they are lying. But he has never lived with me and I have not seen him for a while. Nor have I ever done the things they accuse me of.
