    Uncontested Divorce in California
Can anybody give me a general idea of how long the divorce process would take in the state of California if there are no children and no dispute as to who receives what property... just a clean, simple divorce where both parties are agreed? Is it still necessary or a good idea to get a lawyer? If so, how much would one expect to pay for a lawyer?

Perhaps it would be good to note that there are very little properties involved anyway (no houses, just a couple cars), and the marriage is only 15 months old so far.

Also forgot to add... I am not at all familiar with the divorce process. Does one need to give a reason for the divorce to a judge or anything like that? Is that going to make a difference in how complicated the process becomes? I have heard the term "irreconcilable differences" before and that would be the reason for this divorce. I just want to know what one should be prepared for throughout the whole process, and how long it would take under (what I think are) relatively simple circumstances.

    Thanks in advance.

    Read California Family Code - Division 6 - Part 3 - Chapter 5 and 6:

The No Fault divorce can take 6 months:

    Re: General question re: divorce
I would suggest checking at a local major book store, such as a Barnes & Noble or Borders, as they probably sell a book along the lines of "How to Handle Your Own California Divorce". Those books typically contain forms and instructions, as well as answers to common questions, and many people do find them sufficient to help them get through a simple, uncontested divorce and division of property.
