Assault with Weapon Causing Bodily Harm

had a incident last year in may where this guy all by himself came up to a group of us and started to call us all sorts of names and get in each of are faces to the point wheres he's calling me the "N" word. And i had a beer bottle in my hand that i had just finished. and him being drunk he asks me what im gonna do with the bottle. which he thinks im going to bottle him?.. so he sais" HIT ME YOU F**K** N*GG**. So out of anger and not putting up with his racist act i bottle him in the face and left him with broken jaw and scarring on his face. and also split my thumb and index finger open. Im not the type of guy to be assaulting people but ive put up with too much racism. Im 19 this year and thats my FIRST charge. and prosicutor wants to give me year in jail. but i dont think thats nessary and on top of it i appoligized to the person i attack.. in the email he admits to calling me the "N" word and sais he does not wish me jail time. Do you think i can get off with probation and fines? All in all im a nice person with morals and very sorry for what i did. ive never stressed this much about something ever in my life, to tell you the truth im really scared of going to jail.
