If it's under $200 it's not a felony. If it's over it is. (Actually, New Jersey doesn't technically classify things as felonies or misdemeanors, but most states consider anything with a potential sentence of over a year to be one).
Who knows if it will stop you from getting a job, but lying about it and getting found out will almost certainly result in immediate firing.
Expungement is a possibility in NJ. It's involved, I'd recommend a lawyer.

I'm not 100% sure but I believe to have it expunged in NJ it is a 3yr wait. It's been a little over a year.
Yes I should've have a lawyer, but plead guilty & got it over with. That was my 2nd mistake. (1st being stealing to start with) I haven't lied on my app, I put I wasn't convicted of felony, but fear I wont be given a chance at my job once the background check is run. Thanks for your input.

Sometimes it depends on the employer & the job you applied for whether you get hired
with a history of stealing.
