Cancelled Lease agmnt w/in 3 days of signing - Pay?
I just signed year lease on Saturday. On Sunday left voice mail at rental agency that I couldn't take the apt after all. My circumstances had changed. They advised that I would have to pay 60 days rent and the portion of this month that I got for "free". About 2K in total. I did sign. I cancelled within 3 days. Do I have to pay or shld I go to court?

    Broken lease
You mean, let them sue you for it?

    Getting out of lease
Yes. My question is.... do I have a case NOT to pay? Or should I just save myself the time and aggravation and just pay the money since the court will say I don't have a case? I do not want to go to court if the outcome is a sure bet that I have no case. Do I have a case or should I just pay? Sorry, wasn't clear in my question earlier. :)

    Rent Issues
I don't know if you have a defense or not. It will depend upon the lease terms and the laws of your state. In some states you would only be liable for rent over the time it reasonably took them to find a different tenant. (Of course, sometimes that can be more than two months, so it's a mixed blessing.) The lease agreement may allow them to request attorney fees if they litigate.

If they're asking for $2,000, you may wish to consider trying to negotiate a settlement for a lower figure.
