Abandonment of Us Residency and Re-Activation of My Green Card
    Hi,

I am a Canadian citizen who was issued a US green card and SSN number when I was a child. I don't recall when we moved back to Canada, but only recently my parent gave it to me when I expressed my desire to move to the US and find employment. I would like to re-activate the green card, but need to know what forms are required.

Furthermore, could this be considered abandonment of US resident status? If not, what are my next steps to avoid the confiscation of my green card and SSN card?

    Please advise.

    Thx,

Leaving for more than a year constitutes abandonment of permanent residency. You need to review the USCIS website to see the ways in which a person qualifies for a green card. Your SSN is your forever; not so residency if you do not fulfill the requirements.

    It definitely is.

If you want to regain your LPR status, you're going to have to start from scratch. You have a lot of reading to do. Start here - read ALL of the outgoing links on the page, in addition to the page itself.
