This is in juvenile court? In what state?
It was either juvienile court or traffic court, i forgot. In California.
Oh, and I was 16 when they charged me, Im'm now 17. And do you think they will take my license away? I just got it a month ago
Why do you think you would be charged with a theft offense in a traffic court? If you're a minor charged in juvenile court, it is possible for your parents to be involved in the process.
If you want advice as to whether or not you should plead guilty, you should consult a lawyer.
Well on the citation they sent me it said to appear in traffic court on june.8th. Im really scared. If i plea guilty, will they just tell me my punishment and its over? Because i dont want to keep making more and more court appearances. And should i bring my report card? Im a 3.8 student.
Leave the report card at home and bring a lawyer. If you can't get one plead not guilty and get a court appointed lawyer. Don't shoot yourself in the foot by throwing yourself at the mercy of the court. Your folks should be with you and I'm sure they want to be.
thank you so much. but am I still able to plea not guilty even though i confessed to the cop and they have the video? And will they show the video in court?
You can plead not guilty and change your plea to guilty at a later time, regardless of the evidence the prosecution has against you. This is commonly done for it gives your attorney time to complete the discovery process, undergo plea negotiations, etc., prior to a final disposition of your case. As the videotape is part of the State's proof, it could be shown in court although this will only likely occur if the case is not worked out and ends up going to trial.
You can plead not guilty - that doesn't necessarily mean you won't eventually enter into a plea agreement. If you tried to go to trial, the prosecutor would ordinarily seek to introduce the confession into evidence.
