You could get a year in jail. What is probable is probation of some sort. Your best deal would be community service+restitution. You may get a civil action in addition from the company you stole from asking for damages.
How it will affect you is entirely up to your employer. Unless you stole from the place you are working, they probably won't hear about it. However, Virginia is an at-will state so they don't need any excuse, let alone this, to fire you.
