    Postponing the Arraignment
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Maine

I am feeling the need to postpone the day that I must appear in court. This is when I say not guilty or guilty. There was no arrest and the crime I'm being charged with is theft. (Less than $5.00) Is it possible to do this? I don't have a lawyer. How can I accomplish this? Approximately how long will the postponment be if I am successful? Thanks.

Postpone the date if you are looking for a lawyer (and can prove it). And have the lawyer make the postponement, not you.

Otherwise, you should put on Big Girl Panties and show up for your arraignment, Plead Not Guilty, and ask for a Public Defender.

Since you are in court, do expect fingerprinting and a mugshot to be ordered somewhere during the case.
