    Minor Caught Shiplifting in California
My question involves criminal law for the state of: California

I got caught shoplifting today at abercrombie and fitch. People who work there saw me through security camera and caught me when i walked out. They escorted me into a room and asked for the stuff back. It was a jacket, around $60. Then the staff asked for my name and age and address. I didnt have any ID card with me. They made me call my parents to inform that I've been caught. They called the police. I waited about an hour then the police came, she asked me my name, age, address, school name, and was it the first time i got caught shoplifting. It was my first time by the way. She searched me and my purse, handcuffed me then brought me to the police car and drove me to the police station. When I got there, they asked me about the same questions. Then I signed a citation saying i will be going to court, the violations are both misdemeanors, one was petty theft and the other one not sure. There is also a juvenile number on there. My parents picked me up later. I made a terrible, terrible mistake and broke my parents' hearts. I just want to do what can I do now and will I have a permanent record? I am 15 and a junior at high school.

The first thing you can do is get a job... ANYTHING... wash neighbors windows... feed their cats... ANYTHING.

You see, after an attorney, fees, classes and civil demand... this is going to set your parents back 2-3 THOUSAND dollars.

Then, read the sticky that you ignored at the top of the forum you posted.

Oh...regarding that job that CyJeff suggested...forget retail, forget being a fast food cashier. No one wants a thief handling money. You might get lucky enough to work the fry vat at McD's, but you sure will not be anywhere near the cash register.
