Restarting Unemployment After a Brief Period of Employment
My question involves unemployment benefits for the state of: California
I recently found a full time permanent job. The company had recently completed a multi-million dollar renovation project prior to hiring me. I worked for them for five to six weeks. I found myself caught up in their downsizing to cover the project costs and was laid off. Before I found the job, I was about to start my fourth tier extension of unemployment. My question is; Can I reopen that extension and continue claiming on the fourth tier extension and expect the final FedEd extension?
Re: Desperate in California
Yes. As long as you were laid off or fired without gross misconduct, you will be able to continue your extensions. If your original benefit year ends, you will have to file a new claim and exhaust those benefits before you can collect on the extensions again. Just file a claim like you did in the beginning and they will figure it out. Expect a waiting period though if they have any question about why you left.
Re: Desperate in California
The possible complication is whether you qualify to file a new claim based upon your earnings over the relevant base period.
Re: Restarting Unemployment After a Brief Period of Employment
Hi All
I am in a similar situation I was on UI from 1/2009 till 2/2010 when I had to go onto temp disability, which I am now off can I re open my old claim or not, and I have applied for disability again but it will take 3 months before I know what is happening with it then another 6 months before they pay anything if I get it.
This whole thing stinks..limited Ui and then a 6 mth wait if I do get disability approved

handymanmalcolm, please start your own thread. Your situation is different than the OP's of this thread, and hijacking threads is considered rude on these types of forums. Thank you.
