Minor in the Middle of Alcohol Shoplift
My question involves criminal law for the state of: WA
Hey, I am 17 and turn 18 in December. I got caught today with friends stealing like 6 24 racks of beer. $100 of beer. I am wondering what all I can be charged with. What kind of fines and everything that can come my way.
I didn't steal it personally, I was driving the car, and when I saw the Clerks come out behind them, I put the stuff out of the car, my friends all walked away and one of the clerks got my license plate. I had left the beer there and left. I lied and said I didn't know they were going to steal, the beer was not for me, and now I wish I could take that back, but I am supposed to give my written statement tomorrow.
I don't really know these people I call my "friends" and I don't know their last names so I can't rat them out even if I wanted to. I don't know when my court date is but I also need to know if my court date is after my 18th Birthday, will it stay on my record even thought it happened before I was 18?
I just want to pay the fines, maybe do community service or go to Juvi and have it off my record at 18. I don't mind the fines and what not. I just don't want it on my record and I don't know how to tell the entire truth without getting in trouble unless it doesnt matter until I have written in my statement, but I was read my rights before I told him what happened. Even if I don't say I knew about the stealing, I will still probably get charged with it because I don't know how to share the blame.

For all of those who want to call me a system worker and just a guy trying to get by:
I want to get out of this circle, I don't want to be a part of this stuff, I am going to community college this coming winter in running start, I have a job and I am on good standards with my parents now after being a pothead 2 years ago. I just wanna come clean and just start fresh when I turn 18. I want to know how to do it legally.
    Thanks

So you took people you know so passingly as to not know their last names somewhere in your vehicle? That was trouble waiting to happen.

You can not normally charged with perjury/making false statements until you make a formal, written statement which is normally done under oath. But you could be charged with obstruction for your verbal lies as well. I'm not 100% familiar with Washington's laws on these matters.

You knew that they were going to steal. Therefore you are a party to the crime. The truth may help you with your sentencing. They are going to ask you who the other people were. You will have a choice, tell them or don't. If you don't....you could be looking at obstruction because the events clearly show you did know them if only passingly.

Washington state has procedures in place for getting certain crimes expunged. Whether you are eligible will depend on what you are charged with and convicted/plead on. You are probably looking at a Theft 3rd Degree charge as long as none of your "friends" harrassed, intimidated or threatened the worker in the store. Then it gets bumped up to Robbery 2nd Degree. The theft charge is a gross misdemeanor and may be possible to expunge/seal. The robbery is a felony and may not be eligible. Any such request, whether adult or juvenile, requires a "cooling off" period where you remain out of trouble with the law.

You may also be ordered into Alcohol Education classes, at your expense.
