Am I Able to Get Emancipated
My question involves emancipation laws for the State of: New Jersey.
My name is Blair. I am almost 16 years old. I attend school and I have a job, making between 60 to 80 a week. I want to be emancipated from my parents for many reasons. One is because my mom is abusive. I know I have a place to stay at. I just want to know if I'll be able to.
Re: Am I Able to Get Emancipated
No.
Not a chance.
If you are being abused, please call CPS, 911 and/or speak with your school counselor.
Being emancipated means you have a proven track record of FULLY supporting yourself - not staying with friends etc.
Paying all of your own bills; your own rent, utilities, car payment, gas, food, health insurance etc.
Re: Am I Able to Get Emancipated
Read the stickies.
Had you followed instructions and done that, you could have saved yourself the embarrassment of asking for something that is not available in your state.
Re: Am I Able to Get Emancipated
I feel I am able to support myself. I have money saved up and I make enough for food and everything else. I don't need much.

'Feel' that you can and being able to prove it are two different things. At 16, $60-$80 a week can be exhilarating but not sustaining. My kids couldn't eat on that, let alone support a household. Read the stickies and enjoy your childhood while you can.
Re: Am I Able to Get Emancipated
What part of "you're asking for something that is not available in your state" eludes you?
There are no statutory provisions for emancipation in your state.
That means NO.
Re: Am I Able to Get Emancipated
What this means, Blair, is that if you had a private income of $70K a year and references from President Obama, both your Sentators, your Congressman, and the Pope all declaring that you were the most mature teenager in seventeen states, you STILL couldn't be emancipated because YOUR STATE DOES NOT ALLOW MINORS TO BE EMANCIPATED.
Are we quite clear now?
