Lease Termination for a Fixed Term Lease
My question involves an eviction in the state of: District of Columbia
My lease has a clause that states that tenants must vacate the premises at the termination of the lease. It was my understanding that such a clause was illegal in DC, and that a landlord must allow the renters to continue on a month-to-month basis, with the possibility of increasing rent pursuant to the DC housing code and related regulations. My landlord is saying that he can evict us, because the lease has a firm termination date. Can someone clarify this? Thanks!
Re: Lease Termination for a Fixed Term Lease
You are correct that in D.C. a landlord needs a valid reason to evict you other than the mere expiration of the initial lease term.
