Shoplifting Charge
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Maryland. I have been charged with theft under 100 dollars the penalty is 90 days and or 500 fine. Problem is my story to my family is that I didn't check my reciept and didn't know cashier didn't ring it up. I alsohad to recant my story to my lawyer before my family. This is the single most stupid thingi have ever done. Question how do I tell my lawyer the truth toensure accuraterepresentation and keep it away from my family. Must I tell him ( my lawyer) or leave him. He will find out anyway. Can he ask if I was lying? I hope not wen family is there. My conscience has been eating me up, unable to sleep and a complete emotional wreck.

Re: Shoplifting Charge
Since your family was present, I am assuming your a minor.
First off: You have to be honest with your lawyer. Your lawyer has the right to drop you as a client and keep the retainer if he/she finds you are lying.
Your excuse (Problem is my story to my family is that I didn't check my reciept and didn't know cashier didn't ring it up) will not work in court. The store is going to show evidence, probably video, that this was not the scenario at all.
