Caught Shoplifting, No Police, Paid for Merchendise
My question involves criminal law for the state of: California
I got caught trying to put an item worth 10 dollars into my backpack, and the worker caught me, and asked me if i was going to pay for it, i said yes, and i paid for it. She didnt call the cops, or had me sign anything. Ive stole at this store maybe 4 times before, all in total of no more than 400 (california petty theft limit...right?), and it seems like they dont have any cameras. She seemed like she was just sickened about the fact that i stole, but everything was buisness as usual.
What im worried about is the employee having a change of heart and using my credit card info to get my info and press chargers.
What could i expect if they do pursue to charge me for trying to steal from them but paying for the item that one time?
And after investigating there tapes (if any) they see my actions, what could i expect then?
or am i just being paranoid?

I doubt they'll come after you for this incident. If they review the tapes and find evidence of you shoplifting previously, they can make a police report. They will, however, keep an annoyingly close eye on you on any future visits. The person who asked you to pay for it was probably not LP and they are normally the only ones companies allow to make stops. If they are irritated enough by you, they may bring in someone to watch you and eventually catch you.
Re: Caught Shoplifting, No Police, Paid for Merchendise
The employee that caught me was just a regular employee, she was walking around the store and stuff, its a pretty small store with probably 2-3 employees a day.
but im still paranoid about the employee having a change of heart, cause she was very lenient.
can she decide to use my credit card information after already dealing with the issue?
as you can tell im very paranoid, ashamed, and ive learned my lesson.
