Wrongly Accused of Theft from a Hotel Room
My question involves criminal law for the state of: California.
I met two of my friends in the hotelroom of one of their friends whom I had never met before. I left my charger in the room by accident when we left to head out for the night. While we were leaving the person who's room we were in said he had lost his key and would stop by the front desk before we left for the night. We sat around in the lobby for an hour and finally left for the bar. While at the bar one of my friends decided to go back to the hotel but left without saying anything to me. After he left I approached the man who's room we met in and asked him to come back to the hotel with me so I could make sure my friend had safely returned and to get my charger from his room. He handed me his hotel key and said I could get it myself and return the key to him when I came back. I went into his room and got my charger and also a magazine he said I could have. I returned to th bar and drove him, about 2 hours later back to his room with another friend of mine. He was extremely intoxicated and had lost the hotel I had given back to him. I left once I dropped them off in the lobby. Apparently the man who's hotelroom it was says his ipad was missing and the hotel pulled up video of me entering his room. He denys giving me a key and said I must have stolen it from him and went to his room to take his ipad. What should I do since the only reason I was in his room was to get my charger, and had gotten his permission first.

Has he gotten the police involved yet?
You'd do well to consult an attorney.

Just a thought, but if they have video of you entering the room, don't they have video of you exiting the room, to see if perhaps you were carrying any items?
Re: Wrongly Accused of Theft from a Hotelroom
I was carrying a shoulder bag with me when I entered as well as when I exited. There has been a police report made however I have not been contacted by a detective yet.
