My question involves emancipation laws for the State of: Texas
I am 16 yrs old and about to be 17 in August. On December 21, 2009 my mother died and I've been staying with her common in law husband. She did not leave me to anyone and my father has never been in the picture. I want to get emancipated because right now i have no one who is able to make my decisions and i believe that i will be able to. I have a job babysitting for my sister and a phone. I am still in school, I have my permit and if i get emancipated I can get my license. My mother also left me $5000.00 that only my guardian can touch. Since I do not have one i can't touch it until im 18. If i get emancipated i can get a nice car ( i already have one lined up for $4000.00) and to pay bills. When I get the car I can then find a more stable and better paying job. I have a place to stay, which is with my mothers common in law husband. He is not technically my parent nor is he my guardian so living with him should not be a promblem if we split the bills. In order for my life to continue down a better path i need to get emancipated, all i need to know is if it will be possible.
