Fraud (Check Written to Self)
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Ohio
Okay so I deposited a 999,999.99 $ Check into my own account at an ATM using a check that was the account. If that makes sense. It was from the account, into the account. I did not realize this was illegal? My thinking was - okay well they funds will be there since i'm depositing this check but then they will be immediately removed right afterwards, so it won't harm anything.
Okay.
The reason I did it: (obviously this was really dumb)
My "balance" was -$3.00
This was due to an incorrect amount of money "pending" from opening a tab at a bar. The amount pending was 15.00 - the actually amount was only $3.00.
So in all my wisdom, I figured hey, it's Friday, I'm closing this account soon anyways, I don't want to have to deal with calling the bank about a post that should not be there causing me to have and Overdraft fee, so I'm just going to try this out and hopefully it just goes away. I didn't withdrawal any funds, and I didn't use any amount of money that wasn't mine. (even though it gave me a provisional credit of $400 - which they deducted the following day: afterwhich doing so - my account was at around $5.00 because the bar charge cleared)
Finally, I found out this morning by calling the bank wondering where my direct deposit from my job was - and they told me my account was turned over to the fraud department.
I legitimately had no inkling that this was a huge huge issue and has a ridiculously bad outcome for me - I was more like being a stupid kid and trying to avoid the hassle of having the bank dispute the charges needlessly (really - I would have had no problem getting a refund if an overdraft fee had been charged)
I am wondering what actions to take, or where I stand legally on this matter. I've attempted contacting a lawyer, and I've tried my best to figure out who to contact in fraud but the banks are not being very cooperative with me. (i guess rightly so? but it was an honest mistake)

a million dollar check is a mistake? not hardly.
Your actions amount to fraud. Keep your mouth shut and find a lawyer.
