Does Child Support Change when Custodial Parent Marries
My question involves child support in the State of: WA
My boyfriend is the NCP of his 3 year old daughter. He has been paying child support since he and the child's mother split 2 1/2 years ago.
I'm not sure if it makes a difference, but the mother of the child has been living with her father since the split and working when she needed some extra money.
Recently the mother of the child has gotten married and is moving in with her husband. She will also not be working.
I was wondering if my boyfriend's child support is going to change?
Re: Child Support Change when Cp Married
From what you stated it doesn't read like it is going to change. "Working when she needed some extra money" reads like she her income was not a factor for determining amount of child suppport. If that is true then his amount should not change. Even if her new husband is a multi-millionaire or working for minimum wages. His income will never be a factor.

No problem. ;)
Re: Child Support Change when Cp Married
...with one caveat.
Very, very occasionally if the custodial parent is determined to be willingly under- or unemployed, the stepparent's income may be used to determine the household income.
It's far more common though for the CP to be imputed an income.
:)
Re: Child Support Change when Cp Married
Gah well that's good to hear haha.
The stepparent makes a good amount of money. I hope the dad doesn't have to pay according to what the stepdad makes.
Thank you for bringing that up though!
Re: Child Support Change when Cp Married
I think you misunderstood ;)
If StepDad earns a gazillion dollars a year, in some cases the court can use THAT to figure MOM's portion of support based upon her household income....
That would makes Dad's obligation lower ;)
(Again this isn't too too common but it isn't impossible)
Re: Child Support Change when Cp Married
Oh. Haha well that's cool. Now Stepdad just needs to rank up in the army...
It doesn't really matter if Dad's child support gets lowered or not, I was just curious.
All of this confusing stuff is starting to get a little less confusing. Thank you for all of your help!
Re: Child Support Change when Cp Married
Update:
Dad's child support did get lowered, from $450ish a month to $200.

Why?
They lowered the support because she got married or because of something else? Did someone request an amendment, or did it just get lowered?
Just curious because what you stated shouldn't have lowered it, especially not by more than 50%. Something missing...or maybe not. What Dogmatique stated, she didn't input an income so they took the new husband income and factor a new monthly amount of child support. If so, wow I learn something new everyday. Non working CP should claim some kind of income if they get married.
Now with that said, if she start working will it go back to $450.00 or is it too late? Or will get it get lower than $200.00
