Meijers Shoplifting
My question involves criminal law for the state of: Michigan
Alright, i did something stupid and shoplifted two bottles of alcohol in a total amount of 33 dollars. I was asked to come back into a room filled out the paper work and was told to pay civil damages for 200 dollars. No police or anything just had to fill out paperwork. I payed the fine that same day. My question is....what is the propability that charges will be filed against me. Im 26, Never been convicted of a crime. Any and all information would be most helpful. im really scared and learned my lesson TEN FOLD!

Re: Meijers Shoplifting
Hey there,
Since the police wasn't called at the time, chances that you will be charged are probably pretty low. They get their money one way or another, and since you paid the civil demand, they won't have much motivation to notify the the police about the incident for such a low dollar amount. Now I am not saying that that's is totally out of question.
One of my patients got caught at Meijer 5 months ago for shoplifting smth that was around 27 $. No police were called and he hasn't heard anything from court since then. So probably Meijer kept their word (so far) and hasn't pressed the charges.
Good luck to you too.
